It was a great pleasure to host the return of Niki Steel and Elliot Walker. It’s Niki’s third and Elliot’s second time at the Glass Hub, this time no less fun and still packed full of surprises and great colour demos. Our class comprised of glass colour enthusiasts from as far afield as Ireland, Aberdeen and Switzerland! We are so fortunate to have a loyal return crew, who are now so much part of the furniture, it’s like having having friends back over to stay….in fact, that’s just how it feels. Never enough time to catch up, but enough of a relaxed atmosphere for them to ask exactly what they want to learn. Cup casing, incalmo, trails and much more was covered, as each student learned and tried and tested new processes…..although colour bar tends to take up a lot of time, the small class size meant there was plenty of bench time. Niki and Elliot have a great delivery for teaching technique and process, built on sheer enthusiasm and individual skills……and sharing knowledge is such an obvious pleasure for them, hence it’s a pleasure for all to learn from them.
Undoubtedly, both these young artists will continue to travel and work, and breath glass…..it’s what they do and why they are so good. We should never take this raw talent for granted, and I feel privileged and inspired to have them visit us, as I know everyone who came on the class feels.
See you again next year…maybe a class each in 2016?
